The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has temporarily shut down tourism to monuments in Mahabalipuram ahead of the bilateral summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese Premier Xi Jinping. Members of the public will not be allowed at popular tourist attractions located in the temple town beginning Tuesday. The two heads of state are set to meet between October 11 and 13.

भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण (ए.एस.आई।) ने प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी और चीनी प्रधानमंत्री शी जिनपिंग के बीच द्विपक्षीय शिखर सम्मेलन से पहले महाबलीपुरम स्मारकों के पर्यटन को अस्थाई रूप से बंद कर दिया है। मंगलवार से मंदिर नगर में स्थित लोकप्रिय पर्यटक स्थलों में जाने की आम जनता को अनुमति नहीं होगी।  दोनों राष्ट्राध्यक्षों की बैठक 11 और 13 अक्टूबर के मध्य होने वाली है।

“In exercise of powers conferred under Rule 5 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Rules, 1959 entry to public is suspended in the [Group of Monuments, Mahabalipuram] from 08.10.2019 to till the completion of VVIP visit due to security reasons,” according to an order from the Chennai Circle of the ASI.

चेन्नई सर्किल के ए.एस.आई. द्वारा जारी आदेश के अनुसार "प्राचीन स्मारकों एवं पुरातात्विक स्थलों तथा अवशेष नियमाली, 1959 के नियम 5 के तहत प्रदत्त शक्तियों के प्रयोग में, सुरक्षा कारणों से 8-10-19 से वीवीआईपी की यात्रा पूरी होने तक [स्मारक समूर, महाबलीपुरम] में आम जनता का प्रवेश निलंबित किया जाता है।"

The Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram include the five Ratha temples, the cave sanctuaries and structural temples along the coast of the Bay of Bengal. The Pallava-era monuments have also been deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

महाबलीपुरम स्थित समारकों के समूह में पांच रथ-मंदिर, गुफा अभयारण्य और बंगाल की खाड़ी के तट से सटे हुए संरचनात्मक मंदिर शामिल हैं। पल्लव युग के स्मारकों को यूनेस्कों के विश्व धरोहर स्थल भी माना जाता है।

Both leaders are expected to visit three of the monuments— the Shore temple, Arjuna's penance and the Five Rathas during their two-day visit.

दोनों नेताओं के दो दिवसीय दौरे के दौरान उनसे तीन स्मारकों - शोर मंदिर, अर्जुन की तपस्या एवं पांच रथों के भ्रमण की आशा है। 

In addition to the suspension of tourism, Mahabalipuram has also witnessed tightening of security across the town. 500 police personnel have been deployed in the 20 km stretch between Mahabalipuram and Akkarai. Two deputy superintendents of police (DSPs), six inspectors, and 500 police personnel have been deployed across Mamallapuram in different shifts, including night patrolling. CCTV cameras have been installed across the town as well as on the outskirts for round-the-clock surveillance.

पर्यटन के निलंबन के अतिरिक्त, महाबलीपुरम के पूरे शहर में सुरक्षा व्यवस्था कड़ी कर दी गई है। महाबलीपुरम एवं अक्काराई के मध्य फैले 20 किलोमीटर के क्षेत्र में 500 पुलिस कर्मियों को तैनात किया गया है। रात्रि गश्त सहित विभिन्न पालियों में दो पुलिस उप अधीक्षकों (डी.एस.पी.), छः निरीक्षकों एवं 500 पुलिस कर्मियों को पूरे महाबलीपुरम में तैनात किया गया है। चौबीस घंटे निगरानी रखने के लिए पूरे शहर के साथ-साथ बाहरी इलाकों में भी सी.सी.टी.वी. कैमरे लगाए गए हैं। 

On Sunday, the state police arrested Tibetan activist and writer Tenzin Tsundue and nine other activists who had reportedly planned a protest during Premier Xi's visit, calling for the independence of the region under the Chinese state. 

रविवार को, राज्य पुलिस ने, प्रीमियर शी की यात्रा के दौरान कथित तौर पर विरोध की योजना बनाने वाले तिब्बती कारयकर्ता एवं लेखक तेनज़िन त्सुन्दे और नौ अन्य कार्यकर्ताओं को गिरफ्तार किया है। इन्होंने चीनी राज्य के अंतर्गत इस क्षेत्र की स्वतंत्रता का आह्वान किया था।

Local sources had earlier told TNM that hotels and homestays had been advised against entertaining visitors on the summit dates. 

स्थानीय सूत्रों ने पूर्व में टी.एन.एम. को बताया था कि होटलों और होमस्टेज को शिखर वार्ता की तिथियों के दौरान आगंतुकों का सत्कार न करने की सलाह दी गई थी।
