Women in CRPF will soon get specially designed body gear

In a first, women personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) who have to face riotous mobs will soon get a body gear that fits them.

पहली बार, दंगाई भीड़ का सामना करने वाली केरिपु बल की महिला कर्मियों को जल्द ही फिटिंग का बॉडी गियर मिलेगा।

Since Independence, the women personnel had to compromise with bulky, oversized body protectors designed for men. Around 300 women CRPF personnel posted in Srinagar to control the stone-pelting incidents are to benefit from these gears, a CRPF official said.

स्वतंत्रता प्राप्ति से ही महिला कर्मियों को पुरुषों के लिए डिजाइन किये गए भारी और बड़े शारीरिक सुरक्षा-उपकरणों से समझौता करना पड़ा है। श्रीनगर में तैनात केरिपु बल की लगभग 300 महिला कर्मियों को पत्थरबाजी की घटनाओं को नियंत्रित करना पड़ता है, उन्हें इसका लाभ मिलेगा, केरिपु बल के एक अधिकारी ने बताया।

The full body protector has been designed by a team of scientists of the Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS), a unit of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

इस कवच को रक्षा अनुसंधान और विकास संगठन (डीआरडीओ) की एक इकाई डिफेंस इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ फिजियोलॉजी एंड अलाइड साइंसेज (डीआईपीएएस) के वैज्ञानिकों के एक दल द्वारा डिजाइन किया गया है।

Dr. Bhuvnesh Kumar, Director, DIPAS said, "The gear covers all soft parts of human body such as rib-cage, back of the arm, inner calf, thigh and groin area of females deployed in riot control"

डीआईपीएएस के निदेशक डॉ भुवनेश कुमार ने बताया कि यह कवच दंगा नियंत्रण में तैनात महिला कर्मियों के सभी कोमल अंगों जैसे कि पसलियाँ, भुजा का पिछला भाग, आंतरिक पिंडली, जाँघ और उरुसंधि क्षेत्र को कवर करता है।

Scientist Dr. Shweta Rawat, who led the designing team, said anthropometric data was used to design the the gears which ensure protection of vital organs of women.

डिजाइनिंग दल का नेतृत्व करने वाली वैज्ञानिक डॉ श्वेता रावत ने कहा कि महिला कर्मियों के महत्वपूर्ण अंगों की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने वाले कवच को डिजाइन करने के लिए एंथ्रोपोमेट्रिक डेटा का उपयोग किया गया था।

“The gear is anti-stab, anti-acid. The prototype has been tested and soon we will go for mass production. It will increase the efficiency of women as the protectors being used earlier were designed for men and the ease of operation was lacking,” said Anupam Kulshreshtha, IG, CRPF.

“यह कवच छुरा-रोधी और अम्ल-रोधी है। इसके प्रारंभिक संस्करण का परीक्षण किया गया है और जल्द ही हम बड़े पैमाने पर उत्पादन करेंगे। इससे महिला कर्मियों की दक्षता में वृद्धि होगी क्योंकि पूर्व में पुरुषों के लिए डिजाइन कवच के प्रयोग से परिचालन में सुगमता की कमी रहती थी,” केरिपु बल के महानिरीक्षक अनुपम कुलश्रेष्ठ ने बताया।

Ms. Kulshreshtha added that the idea for gender- specific protective gears was first mooted at the National Conference for Women in 2016.

सुश्री कुलश्रेष्ठ ने आगे बताया कि लिंग-विशिष्ट सुरक्षात्मक कवच के लिए 2016 में आयोजित महिलाओं के लिए राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन में पहली बार विचार प्रस्तुत किया गया था।

“It will be available in all sizes and the material used is the same as that used in male body protectors. It will ensure better mobility. It has also paved the path for further research and development in the field of women-specific body armours and vests,” said Moses Dhinakaran, DIG and spokesperson, CRPF.

केरिपु बल के उपमहानिरीक्षक एवं प्रवक्ता मोसेस धिनाकरन ने बताया कि यह सभी आकारों में उपलब्ध होगा तथा इसमें उपयोग की जाने वाली सामग्री पुरुषों के रक्षाकवच की सामग्री के समान ही होगी। यह बेहतर गतिशीलता सुनिश्चित करेगा। इसने महिलाओं की शारीरिक विशिष्टता के अनुसार कवच और अंतःवस्त्रों के क्षेत्र में आगे के शोध और विकास का मार्ग भी प्रशस्त किया है।

Another official said once the mass production starts, the gears will be available for other central armed police forces and State police forces also. It will weigh around 6 kg.

एक अन्य अधिकारी ने बताया है कि बड़े पैमाने पर उत्पादन प्रारंभ हो जाने पर यह सुरक्षा कवच अन्य केंद्रीय सशस्त्र पुलिस बलों और राज्य पुलिस बलों के लिए भी उपलब्ध होगा। इसका वजन लगभग 6 किलो होगा।

Around 8,000 women deployed in the anti-riot Rapid Action Force (RAF) will get the body protectors. The CRPF is likely to place an order for 9,000 such pieces.

दंगा रोधी द्रुत कार्य बल (आरएएफ) में तैनात लगभग 8,000 महिलाओं को सुरक्षा-कवच मिलेंगे। केरिपु बल 9,000 नग ऐसे सुरक्षा-कवच के लिए आदेश दे सकता है।
